Hi there, I'm Kerry!
Mom to six kids ages 7-26.
Wife to a man who gives knock-out neck massages
Potty-Training and Driver's Ed Veteran
Going grey - and proud of it!
And this is my family . . .
See this picture (that's me in the center - grey hair and green sweater)?
It tells a story of my family.
We are a big family. We are all sorts of ages. We are a mix of birth and adopted. And we are TIGHT.
When I look at this photo I laugh.
This day was so cold and windy - it nearly took our breath away, but we had so much fun (despite some grumbling from young adults).
I feel so much joy and delight when I look at it. It reminds me how awesome my family is - even on the really tough days. And there are TOUGH days.
It's amazing to me that one photo can tell such a rich story.
The best way to make sure you get portraits that tell the story of your family is to make sure you get the best photographer for you!

Let's see if I'm the best photographer for you . . .
-
Do you want a family photography style that is relaxed - allowing personalities to shine?
While you'll definitely get some posed family photos, my main goal is to give you family pictures that record all the beautiful details: the side-glances, the snuggles, the hand-holds. Your family's personality - and STORY will be showcased!

Do you want family photos, but you're concerned about a photo session taking too long?
You want a family photo session that is run quickly and efficiently - before the kids, or you, get hungry or just plain grouchy. Most of my photo sessions last 30 minutes. (I block out an hour, if we need it, but rarely need all that time!)

Do you want to work with a family photographer that will set your family at ease?
My clients rave about my relaxed, natural manner and ability to make even the most uncomfortable subject feel relaxed in front of the lens. You'll get stunning family portraits, while having a fun, easy-going experience that takes away all the headache from finally getting family portraits done!

My experience and background
When you work with me, you are working with someone who has devoted a large portion of her life to the photographic image.
I graduated from James Madison University in Virginia in 1992 with a degree in Art History, with a concentration in Photography (history and practice).
But my love - maybe obsession? - with photography goes back years before that!
Some of my earliest memories include the plastic-snappy click of a Kodak Instamatic camera - with it's microscopic viewfinder.
I continued experimenting and learning about cameras and photography through high school and college - back when it was all film, of course.
These days I generally don't work with film, but with digital "negatives".
While my portrait photography is centered around families, seniors, and events, my personal art photography is focused on the delight of discovering new places, the beauty of the abandoned building, and the charming details of daily life.

Odds and Ends
I love coffee - hazelnut latte. But, I'm truly a tea afficianado. My favorite right now is Kusmi's St. Petersburg blend!
My travels have taken me to 4 continents and 9 countries from Canada to China. I guess you could say I'm a committed traveler. Returning to Sweden (to visit husband's extended family) in 2023. Hoping to add at least 2 more countries by 2024 (Ireland and England).
Dystopian fiction is a favorite of mine! My most recent read: the Silo Series, by local author Hugh Howey. (Born and raised in Monroe, NC)
My pre-bed routine involves watching reruns of Seinfeld, Frasier, or MASH.
I'm very proud of my French heritage. Je parle français, mais c'est un peu rouillé. (I speak French, but it is a little rusty.) And I believe whole-heartedly in the French proverb, "A meal without wine is like a day without sun"
